About the Clinic - Obstetrics
The NKC Medical clinic was established in November 2007 at the Pier at the Marina. The facilities offered here for NKC Medical patients include restaurants, shopping, a day spa (with a discount for our patients), gym, hairdresser and bookshop. There is also free undercover car parking for 2 hours, a real boon in the tropics during the wet season!
Welcome to a suite of rooms that endeavours to make you feel cared for from the moment you arrive. A palette of wood, stone, glass and the colour of the trees greets you behind the discreetly frosted front door. The décor is organic and calming, part of the whole philosophy of Dr. Natalie that pregnant people are not necessarily ill, and should not be seen as such. Our efficient reception staff Debbie and Raelee will direct you to a comfortable seating area, encouraging you to partake of filtered water, tea or Lavazza coffee - herbal or decaffeinated of course for our pregnant ladies! Without a white antiseptic tile in site, your senses are soothed by the scent of lavender in the air, and the discreet music in the background.
They'll ask you to fill out a patient information sheet on arrival so that all your details are already entered into your chart by the time Dr. Natalie calls you into the consulting room. NKC medical is a "paperless"practice enabling a new level of continuity of care between the team, using the "Genie" practice software. This enables Dr. Natalie to communicate with your referring doctor that same day by letter, not next week. Likewise, your notes can be accessed by Dr. Natalie if you are unexpectedly admitted to hospital and need to be assessed out of the rooms. You will also personally hold a copy of your medical record at all times, against an unexpected accident where paramedic staff or staff remote from your home hospital will need to be able to help you quickly and with complete knowledge of the progress of your pregnancy.
Our friendly and experienced midwives Jillian and Michelle will start your assessment in our day pregnancy unit. This includes a comfortable massaging armchair, with a special motorised lifting facility - quite handy for the heavily pregnant lady! They will take your blood pressure, check any results that may be pending, and confirm that you have made appropriate contact with your hospital of choice for booking for your impending birth. Any general queries you have will be dealt with, and then there is an opportunity for directed antenatal education specific for your needs. If you require further time with your midwife prior to seeing Dr. Natalie, just make us aware before your appointment so that time can be protected for you. If it is time for routine blood tests, then these can be taken right then and there on site, as well as any other pathology that may be required by Dr. Kiesey-Calding.
After your session with your midwife, Dr. Natalie will take you in for a thorough medical assessment of your pregnancy. This will include questions about your state of mind, how the pregnancy is impacting on your work and/or family commitments, and whether you require any documentation regarding your due date ectecera. Any ongoing medical issues pertinent to the pregnancy will be reviewed as will recent results from investigations. Then the growth and well being of baby will be assessed - this may include CTG monitoring or ultrasound scanning, as well as clinical assessment all of which can be provided on site by Dr. Natalie and her team.
Finally, once it has been established that all is going well, your repeat appointments will be booked in advance to ensure that you have your choice of time and or date. This is especially helpful for partners with work commitments that still wish to attend the appointment.
In the event of a problem, you will be seen that same day, either at the rooms or at the hospital that you've booked at.
