After general nursing training, she spent some time in intensive care before deciding to specialise as a midwife. She completed this in 1993, and then returned to our shores and the subsequent love of her life Chris, whom she married in 1994.
She has worked in several hospitals in Sydney, finishing off at King George the Fifth (KGV), before settling in Cairns in 1996. She then started practice at the Cairns Base Hospital until she had her first son Jacob in 1999, closely followed by Oscar in 2002.
Her special professional interests include childbirth education and delivery suite work. Her impetus to continue to do the amazing work that she does is the reward of being a part of such a special time in so many couples lives.
Out of hours when she is not ably filling her other roles as wife and mother, she enjoys cooking, travelling (if only there was more time!), netball and wine appreciation (!).
As the practices’ main midwife, Jillian fills an indispensable role in the support and care of our patients antenatally. She has been instrumental in the establishment and continued success of our antenatal and breast feeding workshops and continues to strive to improve our delivery of quality services in all spheres.
