Born in Perth, Western Australia, Dr Kiesey-Calding attended medical school there at the University of Western Australia. She was accepted to the RANZCOG (Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists) training programme in 1999, as the first ranked candidate for Queensland.

This programme was for 6 years in total, starting at the Mater Hospital in Brisbane for 2 years, the Logan Hospital for a further year, and Cairns for 12 months.

During this time she passed her Membership Examinations for the college on her first sitting in the top third of her group.

She then went overseas to the United Kingdom for 2 years, to further study obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound and laparoscopic gynaecological surgery. This was in conjunction with the RCOG (Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists) in the United Kingdom.
She was based in Jersey in the Channel Islands and from there had the opportunity to travel to many international meetings being held in Europe. Her studies culminated in obtaining the RCOG/RCR Diploma of Advanced Obstetric Ultrasound.

Dr. Kiesey-Calding then returned to Australia, and accepted a staff specialist position at the Cairns Base Hospital. During this time, she was also involved in the JCU medical school teaching and assessment programme.

She was also heavily involved in obtaining accreditation for the Obstetric and Gynaecological Department to offer an intern position for new graduates.

With the retirement of a colleague from private obstetric work, Dr. Kiesey-Calding made a commitment to the community of Cairns to practice private obstetrics, gynaecology and to provide an excellent clinical obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound service.  She continues to maintain her links to public medicine in Cairns, by participating in the on-call roster at the Cairns Base Hospital, and maintaining a high risk obstetric ultrasound clinic weekly for public patients. She continues with JCU as a clinical lecturer, and will be examining the medical students in obstetrics and gynaecology.

She is married and has two daughters, born in 2005 and 2006. Her husband Matt cares for them full-time, as well as assisting with her practice. She enjoyed travelling through Europe and Canada prior to the arrival of her daughters, skiing and has a keen interest in antiques and Australian architecture.
